Aside from the dealers, who are the good mechanics/shops to take a 911 for service in St. Louis and points south? My '86 Cabriolet has an ignition issue I just can't track down. Thanx.

Ask for Jon. He's the shop manager.

I second the Reid Vann vote, they do great work and know Porsche cars well. They also work on my Audis as well as my '89 turbo

Here is the problem; of course there are other choices, such as car dealers, not to mention any names. I am sure they can provide excellent repair service, but at a higher price. Reid Vann is a repair shop, not a car dealer. Their specialty is Porsches, even though they prices are just a little below the dealers per hour they will not inflate their time. I’ll give you and example, the drain and fill plugs in the transmission of my 911 were frozen, I stripped them both. Their book said if I remember correctly 1.5 hours for draining and replace transmission fluid, I paid based on that time not the time and effort that took them to remove both plugs. Visit their shop, you won’t be disappointed.

There is one place I would not recommend base on personal experience, German Automotive Specialties.

An additional vote for Reid Vann. The shop manager Jon is the best. He gets to the bottom of your car's issues. He informs you about your options and takes time to discuss your options with you. He advises you about what needs to be fixed now and what can wait. He keeps detailed notes on your car. If there is every a problem he is in your corner. Jon is a man of action not talk like the dealer service departments. You will not be disappointed.
