Any recommendations on getting an ac unit working to cool enough to drive? Anybody converted the system over to the new refrigerant? How much to tear out the old system and put in a new one? Any recommendations on a shop and the cost? Thanks, John Renz

I had my 86 951 converted a few years ago. It was just a recovery of the R12, screwing on the "adapter" fittings to the AC system and refilling with 134a. I've heard stories of the system locking up, burning up the compressor and such but I've had no problems. That's saying something from a black/black car in south FL. - the car is a meat locker.

Thanks! It sounds like you had the work done in Fla rather than locally. I am not so sure my compressor shouldn't be replaced. I need to find an expert on AC units to diagnose my problem. Thanks, John

If you have any questions give our Shop a call and we can help you out and give you some advice. It's called Greg's Car Care and ask for my father Greg Sr. He would be happy to help you.

Excellent! I'll give him a call next week. A good friend of mine (Larry Bares) also recommended your father. Thanks, John

Getting acceptable AC in these cars is not a trivial task

I took my car to Greg's Car Care and Greg Sr. is seeing what he can do with it. Shop looked great and Greg Sr. and Jr. are good guys. I'll let you know how the AC turns out! Thanks for the recommendation. Regards, John Renz

Update!!!!!!! I got my car back from Greg's Car Care. They did an outstanding job on fixing my AC. My wife and I went on the PCA event on Sunday and it was in the high 80's with full sun. I purposely left the targa top on to run the AC and see how it would do. Several times my wife asked me to turn down the AC because she was too cold! The AC has never worked since I have owned the car despite having it worked on in North Carolina. Needless to say Greg's Car Care Center is the only place I will have my 911 worked on! Greg Sr. Is great to work with. If anybody needs more information on this please email me at johnwrenz@gmail.com. Thanks, John:)
