A common question heard at HPDE's is "will my insurance company pay for damage to my car if it happens during a HPDE?" The answer is that it varies with insurance companies. However there is a new company talked about on Rennlist called Prosure. There actually is a pretty good thread about Prosure under the racing forum. Prosure sells insurance to specifically cover your car during a HPDE. I have no affiliation with them and currently do not have the insurance as the value of my car might not justify it but wanted to pass the information on. Their web site is www.prosure.net. My understanding is that they pay for any damage to the car without getting your normal auto insurance carrier involved. Also, I think this insurance just covers damage to your car. There is no liability or other coverage.
Again, I have no first hand experience with Prosure and no affiliation but wanted to pass this on.

I would stay away from Prosure for now. Apparently, the guy selling it is having problems with the carrier. In fact, I think he is no longer even writing policies. I think this is the second carrier he has tried to write DE insurance through.

How fast things change. At first it looked liked he had his new company up and going but apparently some issues have come up. Too bad as I think there is a real opportunity here for the right person to put together a program to cover cars driving in DEs. Anybody know of a company that is writing insurance for DEs?

Not meaning to confuse anybody here but the insurance I am talking about here is for doing the actual driving education in your own car on the track. You do not need to worry about insurance if you are doing a ride along (driving experience) as you will be riding in your instructors car.

There are fortunately still "mainstream" insurance companies whose exclusions are of the level of "no timed events"
I recently switched to one such provider ... if they would want to deny a DE event incident, there is nothing in their fine print providing an opening to deny a claim
Not so with my previous insurance company ... they revised theirs to include "any activity designed to improve driving skills" and went on to the effect of if it looks, sounds, smells like racing, it is, and it ain't covered
